The DPS, the McGill Daily and Le Délit are independent from student societies (such as SSMU and PGSS) as well as the University. Our relationship with McGill University is regulated by a memorandum of agreement (MOA), which lasts five years. Its renewal is conditional on the members agreeing to continue to pay membership fees via an online referendum. As a non-for-profit organization, the DPS is committed to providing its members the highest level of transparency in accordance with the relevant legislation. As a non-profit organization, we are audited yearly and publish our financial statement on McGill’s website and in our papers on a yearly basis. Additionally, all member of the DPS are also entitled to receive a copy of our financial statements, free of charge and upon request. All McGill downtown campus undergraduate students (with the exception continuing education students), as well as all downtown campus graduate students (with the exception of non-residents, graduate medical students and graduate dentistry students) are members of the DPS and contribute to its funding, undergraduate students pay a $6.00 fee per term while graduate student pay a $3.35 fee per term. Your fees are vital in allowing us to provide McGill with two critical sources of on-campus investigative journalism, as well as platforms for commentary and creative work.
Last but not least, fee paying members can get involved at all levels of the organization by contributing to our papers, running as an editor, or even sitting on the Board of Directors. Moreover, we encourage our members to attend our annual general meeting in October and to come observe our board meetings to help shape the organization.
